📖 Her Story

Meet beautiful Pearl. 💕🐾

Pearl is one of those special dogs whose progress might happen in little steps, but every one of those steps feels enormous.

She came into the pound as a frightened stray and unfortunately had a particularly difficult start. During a period when there were no regular volunteers at the pound, Pearl was kennelled with a dog who wasn't kind to her, leaving this already sensitive girl even more frightened and unsure.

But slowly, things have started to change. ❤️

Moving Pearl to a different pound and giving her the company of friendly dogs has made an enormous difference to her confidence.

The little girl who once hid in the corner is now coming out into the main area, zooming around with her favourite canine friends and actively choosing to approach and follow the volunteers.

She's beginning to discover that life can actually be fun.

🐶 Personality & Temperament

Pearl is an incredibly gentle, sensitive and sweet-natured girl.

She's still learning to trust people and isn't yet a dog who will immediately come running over asking for cuddles. But that's actually part of what makes her progress so lovely to see.

Pearl now actively chooses to come over and be around the volunteers. She follows them, dances around them and shows affection in her own slightly shy little way.

We really believe there is a very affectionate girl waiting underneath that remaining uncertainty - she just needs someone willing to let that relationship develop at Pearl's pace rather than expecting everything from her straight away.

Despite being unsure about touch, Pearl has never shown aggression. When handling is necessary, she allows it without growling, snapping or barking. She's simply a gentle girl who just needs a little time.

And then there are other dogs... ❤️

Pearl absolutely LOVES them.

Being around friendly dogs seems to bring out a completely different side of her. She comes alive, plays, zooms around and gains enormous confidence from having canine friends around her.

She happily mixes with dogs of different sizes and is currently sharing her kennel with Franco. She doesn't guard her space or belongings and is an incredibly tolerant, submissive girl.

Because other dogs give Pearl so much confidence, we feel a friendly resident dog will be really important in her new home. That dog will need to be genuinely kind and sociable rather than grumpy or selective, as Pearl is so submissive that she would be unlikely to stand up for herself if another dog bullied her.

🏡 Home Requirements

Other Dogs: Yes - Pearl needs to live with a friendly, confident resident dog. She absolutely loves other dogs and takes a huge amount of confidence from their company. Her canine companion will need to have a gentle, sociable temperament as Pearl is very submissive.

Cats: No - Pearl is not considered suitable to live with cats.

Children: Pearl is best suited to a quieter home with sensible, dog-savvy children aged 10+. This isn't because we have any concerns about aggression - quite the opposite, Pearl is an exceptionally gentle girl. A calm home will simply make it much easier for her to settle and build confidence without feeling overwhelmed.

Experience Needed: Pearl needs a patient and understanding family who won't place expectations on her or rush her into physical affection. Her adopters will need to be happy to celebrate the small victories and allow her relationship with them to develop naturally. Experience with sensitive or nervous rescue dogs would be beneficial.

Pearl is also still learning about walking on a lead. She has had limited opportunities to practise due to volunteer availability, so her family will need to continue building this skill gradually and positively.

💕 Could Pearl Be Your Perfect Match?

Pearl won't be the dog who arrives home and immediately climbs onto your lap for cuddles.

But for the right person, we think watching this beautiful girl blossom could be something incredibly special. ❤️

We've already seen glimpses of the dog hiding underneath that uncertainty.

We've watched her go from hiding in the corner to following volunteers around.

We've watched her start to play.

We've watched her zoom around happily with her canine friends.

And we've watched that funny little dance she does around the people she wants to be close to, even though she hasn't quite worked up the courage to ask for those cuddles yet. 🥰

Pearl is learning how to be a dog, and she's learning that people can be kind.

What she needs now is a calm home, a lovely friendly dog to show her the way and humans who understand that trust doesn't have a deadline.

Give Pearl the time and space she needs, and we think there is the most incredibly loyal, affectionate and loving little companion waiting to emerge.

She doesn't need someone to change her overnight.

She just needs someone willing to give her the chance to keep blossoming. 💕

Could you be the family Pearl has been waiting for?
